Week 36: Baby, please let me sleep…

35 weeks, 2 days.

So we’ve now reached the part of the pregnancy where my belly is so heavy that I simply can’t get comfortable to sleep. I have to build a convoluted nest of pillows intended to support my awkward side-lying position while keeping my legs in a position that encourages the baby to move into a good position for labor. Ugh.

And once I do finally pass out, I wake up about four or five hours later with terrible shoulder and back pain on my left side, so I have to flip to my right side for a while, but by then I’m too tired to rearrange the pillows for comfort, so then I wake up again, and, well, I’m tired all day.

The kid’s getting so big I can barely walk – I have a good few hours in the middle of the day where I’m stretched out enough to not be feeling my morning aches and pains and not yet tired enough to be feeling the ones I have in the evening, but damned if I don’t feel like an old woman right now… And my chest hurts. Grrrr.

Small Monster’s been moving significantly – as in whole-body significantly – when I’m falling asleep in bed at night, and I really hope he isn’t turning himself into some awkward position that guarantees a C-section. I mean, one might be guaranteed anyway, but work with me, kid!

And now, now I’m off to German class, where I will try to sit for a couple of hours and where Small Monster will do acrobatics when I try to concentrate ;) Hopefully I won’t fall asleep (no offense to my German prof – the class is interesting, but my body just isn’t cooperating with me lately…); apparently we’re watching a film today, which usually (presuming there’s music) makes Small Monster wiggle, so I suppose falling asleep by accident would be difficult anyway ;)

Your nights sound like mine! Except in addition to having to turn every few hours, I also have to get up to pee in between those times. ARGH!

On the plus side… one month till our babies are here!! WOO WOO!

I remember those days. The best sleep I had was propped up with a bunch of pillows on our couch from 6:00am until noon. I could not sleep at night for some reason. Total insomniac. This worries me for the next kid, because I am pretty sure I won’t be able to crash from 6 until noon.
