Week 28: Only one thing I’ve ever flunked…

27 weeks, 2 days.

There’s apparently still only one thing I’ve ever outright flunked (3rd grade handwriting), and it was not my gestational diabetes test yesterday :)

Woo hoo!

Given that I’m huge, the baby’s measuring a little big, and I wanted to go home and pass out after that delicious *cough* “Glucola” they made me drink yesterday (suuuugar crash!), I was almost certain I’d flunked and would have to go in for the 3-hour test, and then possibly have to be treated for it. Visions of finger pricks, dietary plans, and maybe even insulin shots (uuuugh) danced in my head.

But no! Yay! I passed! Ok, so I was a little on the high end of normal, but I passed nonetheless and the doctor said “yup, normal” in his e-mail today. Plus all of the other stuff (thyroid, various blood count thingies) was normal, meaning I don’t have to take more thyroid meds than I already take, and no one’s making me try to get down more iron supplements. Can I get me a Hallelujah?

The test itself wasn’t bad, except that they couldn’t find a vein to take the blood for some reason, and ended up taking one on my forearm, leading to a really sexy bruise. Probably two, actually, but I haven’t checked the other arm, and it’s currently snuggled into my nice, fuzzy pajamas, which are keeping me from freeezing this morning :) (Note to the Almighty – I am totally not complaining about the cold. It is awesome, and you have also provided me with fuzzy pajamas to stay snuggly, so, um, good job on the weather and stuff!) And actually, the glucola just tasted like an orange soda, so in and of itself it wasn’t that bad. The thing is, my main aversion right now is to sugary sweets, and I’ve had probably a grand total of two sodas since I got pregnant, so the effect it had was unpleasant. Small Monster got all hyped up (the doc could only find his heartbeat for a couple of seconds at a time because the kid was totally doing his Denny Terrio impression), and Mama absolutely crashed later, and was then really, really famished.

No more soda for us!

Anyhow, I gots ta run. I have German class this morning, and I’m waaaay too sleepy for it :)

Is it weird that I didn’t find that stuff too sweet, and that it didn’t really bother me?
I think I’d better go see my dentist…
