So I think I’ve decided I’ll take a course this quarter, even though the baby is due at the end of the quarter and I’ve no guarantee that I won’t go into labor or get stuck on bedrest beforehand.
The fact is, one of the coolest things for me about my husband working at this particular university is that I get to take a free class every quarter. Now, because I’m not enrolled in a particular program, which classes I can take are vaguely limited (though in actuality probably not much, with the instructor’s permission…), and since I’m pregnant, I’m not really sure what my scattered brain is going to put up with anyhow. But I’m finding it really hard to decide… do I take another German class to get into German mode for the baby? Do I see about taking a piano lesson for fun (never mind that I haven’t really touched a piano in nearly 20 years)? Do I take a math class because I’m a geek and I really like math classes (and have I forgotten so much advanced math that it would be a huge struggle)? Do I take a CS class because I’m a code monkey and my inner code geek is screaming to be released? (That one’s a little unlikely right now, I admit, but…) Do I take a fiction writing class to get my butt into gear to make more progress on this novel?
Do I take underwater basket-weaving just to complete the set?
I need to decide soon – I’d have to get a professor’s signature this week to enroll, but bah… so much variety, so many pregnancy hormones killing off my brain cells.
I mean, it’s not like I need more university credits – given all of my time as an undergraduate and graduate student, I think it might be downright embarrassing if I actually 1) figured out how many higher education credits I have, and 2) actually told anyone…
