20 weeks, 3 days: Part deux.
So I’ve been having some nasty stomach problems the last few days; I wouldn’t call it indigestion exactly, but, well, I don’t want to get too graphic. Let’s just say it’s been uncomfortable and disgusting.
I couldn’t really figure out what was going on until I did something stupid this morning – took my vitamins and the prenatal DHA I take (ultra-filtered fish oil from a reputable company – don’t need kid with mercury damage, thanks) with some orange juice when I got up, intending to eat some cereal a few minutes thereafter. And then I started reading the news. And once I do that, I forget nearly everything.
And what do you know, an hour later? Sick sick sick.
Now, I’ve been taking this stuff since before I got pregnant, so I’d really doubted any of that was what was making me sick. But then I realized that something I’ve done the last three days that I hadn’t done before was to take the DHA/fish oil at times when my stomach was relatively empty. And then I got sick. Because God knows pregnant women need more sources of indigestion.
So note to self: take the darned things with food next time. Because there’s really nothing more disgusting than the taste of fish oil in the morning. Or afternoon. Or evening, for that matter.
(Well, except for liver. That’s more disgusting. But we don’t do liver at Haus Grothoff. So fish oil still wins the Golden Yuck Award.)

That’s funny. I always make sure I eat something first before popping the prenatal and the extra DHA supplement that also claims to have filtered out any potentially naughty ingredients. Liver most definitely would be far nastier, though. Agreed on that point. Luckily they are not even recommending liver for prego ladies anymore, and we can find our iron elsewhere. So no no need to go down that nauseating path! And fish oil not so bad as long as taken with food…without, I’m sure I’d have similar experience (ick)…
