14 weeks, 3 days.
I’m clearly posting too often lately. The number of pregnancy posts in the last month alone are enough to obliterate any intellectual credibility I might have had. But hey, I’m pregnant, so bite me.
So the past couple of days, something has been happening that I thought was clearly impossible. I’ve been having these strange feelings in my lower abdomen, right about where the baby is… it feels a little like someone set my cell phone to “vibrate” and implanted it in my stomach. Just a short little vibration, and then nothing, and then another later. I’ve never felt anything like it before.
Anyhow, the range they give for feeling the baby for the first time is something like 14-22 weeks, with first time moms feeling it at about 18, and heavy women usually later.
I’m a first time mom. I’m heavy. I shouldn’t be feeling anything, right?
Er, well… see, it’s not the other possibility, which is gas. Ask any pregnant woman – she knows exactly what that feels like, trust me. All those organs crammed together plus a slowed-down digestive tract means you get really familiar with how it feels.
But people describe the feeling of the baby early on as popcorn popping or butterflies in the stomach – and that it ain’t. This feels like a cell phone set to vibrate, and not much else. In fact, the first time it happened, I did reach into my pocket looking for the cell phone. It was in my shoulderbag.
So it’s been happening with some frequency the last few days, and finally I decided to look it up online – sure enough, there are moms on their second or third pregnancy saying that that’s exactly what it feels like to them – a pager or cell phone set to vibrate. And it happens exactly in the area of my abdomen that the baby is supposed to be right now. And other first-timers on the pregnancy board I frequent are having similar experiences.
So, um, hi in there?
Maybe, anyhow…

I first felt Sacha move at 15 or 16 weeks, and that was my first (and only, so far) pregnancy. I wasn’t really sure what it was until it kept persisting and increasing in frequency/intensity. After 20 weeks, it was all moving, all the time!
Yeah, there’s still a part of me that wonders if it’s not my stomach rumbling (I suppose it’s possible that I’ve eaten a cell phone at some point…), but I guess I’ll know soon enough
At this point, I need anything I can find to keep me excited enough to eat green, leafy vegetables, so I’ll take what I can get!
