Week 12: The little Monster moves around… (on screen, anyway…)

11 weeks, 6 days.

So yesterday was my 12-week appointment. I don’t think they normally do an ultrasound then, but my OB pulled in the machine and said he thought he’d give us one just to make us feel better due to the miscarriage last year. (My OB is the same guy who did the D&C after the miscarriage, and we really like him – that he pulled in the ultrasound machine for a quick peek yesterday just goes to show we picked a cool one ;) )

I’m far enough along that they can do an abdominal ultrasound now, and so we got to see Small Monster wiggling around in there – it was pretty hard to see, but all the right bits seem to be there, and he or she measures at 12 weeks, 4 days, so all is good. (Hrm… last time it was 8 weeks, 2 days at 8 weeks… all within the statistical bounds of error in both cases, so it really means nothing, but I still wonder if I’m gonna have a big kid because my husband is so gigantic ;) ) This was the first time Christian has seen the baby live, but unfortunately, it was pretty hard to see, so I guess we’ll have to wait for the next one. We’d like to know the sex then, but we also know that it’s entirely possible that the kid won’t cooperate (it’s our kid, so it’s pretty likely it won’t cooperate – resistance to authority in the womb!) , and we’ll live either way. I won’t post the picture, since it doesn’t look like much of anything, but it’s still cool that we got to see the little Monster squirming around anyhow. The doc said it looked good, which makes me happy for now. And I’m glad to know that I have something in my head to tide me over in terms of convincing me that there’s something going on in there (you’d think missing three periods would do that, but honestly, all that makes me feel is gratitude to the gods ;) .

The “morning sickness” seems to be gone… we’re sort of doubting it was that anyway, since we seem to have identified a culprit – some nectarines I bought last week. I *love* nectarines, but when I ate another one of them yesterday, I felt bad again. So either they’re bad nectarines, or my stomach is just being an evil bitch :) Either way, all is good now.

Nah, the big evil thing going on right now is my allergies. I have insanely miserable allergies to begin with, and not being able to take anything for them sucks. I’m going to make an appointment with my primary care doctor about my hand anyway, so I suppose I’m going to cave in and ask for a medication I can (relatively) safely take when my head feels like it’s going to fall off. Obviously, I wouldn’t take it every time I was going to sneeze, but this? This sucks. I blame the jerks that mow their lawns – grass should be outlawed! ;)
