Week 5: Little grapes

Day 34.

So I keep waking up early. Understand that before I got pregnant, getting me to actually get out of bed at 7:30 on purpose and furthermore to be awake was a near impossibility (since I stopped working, anyway). Now I wake up, oh, about 2, and then about 5, and usually around 7ish. Part of this is my ever-shrinking bladder, but really, I’m finding it hard to sleep past 8 no matter how tired I am during the day.

Of course, I also can’t stay up past around 11 without wanting to pass out. Stupid hormones.

Grape In other news, for those playing the home game, according to my handy-dandy pregnancy journal, the amniotic sac for the baby is now about the size of yon grape pictured to the right, and the embryo is about the size of one of its seeds (if this one had seeds, which it does not; let us hope this is not an analogy for what is going on in my belly this time…).

Speaking of which, we apparently graduated to embryo status today. Go us!

(N.B.: “Us” refers to me and the Little Monster, as we’ve chosen to call him or her – no, we’re not predicting mass chaos (though surely that will come); this is definitely “monster” in the Muppet sense. You know, snuggly, etc. Though if I give birth to Elmo I’m sending him back!)

I suppose these unobservable little milestones are a necessary way to get through the weeks and months until the baby is something tangible. God knows I’m going nuts already, and I’m not even 5 weeks pregnant yet!
